The 5 Types of Bail

There’s more to bonds than a stern, elderly judge banging his gavel and demanding $100,000 in bail. Bail actually comes in at least five different types, though some are more frequent than others.
1.) Cash Bail:
This is the most expected form of bail. It means that the accused is asked to pay a full amount of bail in cash, though occasionally the court will accept checks.
2.) Bail Bond:
Also called a surety bond. When the accused is not able to pay full price of his or her bond (which is in most cases of arrests), someone else can pay the bail in his or her place. It can be a family or relative, or a bail bond agent like BailQuote.
3.) Release on citation:
For the more minor offenses, an officer may trust the suspect to appear in court out of own will. Instead of arresting the accused, the officer will issue a citation commanding the suspect to appear in court at a specific date
4.) Release on own personal recognizance:
Sometimes, the judge him(her)self will choose to release the suspect, trusting him or her not to jump bail. The defendant will then have to appear before the judge again at the assigned court date.
5.) Property Bond: Instead of paying cash, the defendant can also pay with property. The court will get a lien on the property in the amount of the bail, and if the defendant doesn’t show up in court, the court will foreclose the offered property.

The Consequences of Jumping Bail

Bail is a process that started in England centuries ago. The arrested no longer has to be kept in jail until his appointed court date, and jail space can be cleared up for suspects of graver offenses. Though it’s a liberating process for the arrested in keeping of his basic rights, being released on bail is not the end-all of the ordeal. You must show up to court at your assigned court date, or there will be serious consequences.
If you jump bail, that will become another separate criminal offense in its own, which means you’ll be charged more seriously for a double offense. It will also result in immediate forfeiture of your bail, and even a bail bond agent will not be able to bail you out. If you jump bail, the court can issue an immediate warrant for your arrest. Your bail bond agent will also be authorized to arrest you. Modern statutes have granted bail agents the right to arrest any bail jumpers.
So…considering taking flight on bail? Don’t even think about it. It’s not worth the inevitable results.

Top Tips On Finding A Reliable Bail Bond Company: Los Angeles

If a friend or loved one has been arrested, you will probably need a reliable bail bond company to help guide you through the bail process. Here are some tips to keep in mind when choosing a bail bond company.

1. No Money Down?: If a bail bond company is offering you ‘no money down’, disregard the company. Bond amount is actually a set fee which is the same across the state. Thus, these ‘no money down’ companies might have a hidden agenda of you putting down, say…your mortgage instead.
2. Considering Interest: While bail companies must charge for their services, they are not by law required to charge interest. Make sure to find a bondsman that doesn’t charge interest. This way, you won’t be rushed to pay back your loan.
3. Time and Day: Some bail companies are not 24/7. Make sure your bondsman is always available. You want someone who can spring you at 3:30 am and not take two hours to arrive at the jail.
4. Friendliness: You’ll definitely want someone who is not only friendly, but warm and compassionate. Jail is a scary place, and you’ll want your bondsman to be as warm and comforting as possible as he helps bail you out.

BailQuote is verified and certified by the California Department of Insurance, and thus, has the right to get you out of jail immediately. All agents charge a fee for their services, but BailQuote’s fee is the lowest you’ll find anywhere. The fee is usually around 10 % of your total bail. Also, at BailQuote, we don’t change an an interest rate, which other companies most certainly will do. Though the fee is non refundable, as is with all bond companies, our agents go far and above their call of duty to make sure you are comfortable, informed on the bail process, and best yet, out of jail.
